The Imaging Department at Heart & Vascular Specialists DFW provides non-invasive cardiovascular imaging to help diagnose heart and vascular conditions accurately and efficiently. Using advanced ultrasound technology, our imaging tests allow physicians to evaluate blood flow, heart structure, and vessel health without surgery or radiation.
All imaging studies are performed in-office by trained professionals and interpreted by experienced cardiology specialists.
An echocardiogram uses ultrasound waves to create real-time images of the heart. This test evaluates heart size, pumping strength, valve function, and overall heart structure.
A carotid ultrasound examines the carotid arteries in the neck to assess blood flow to the brain and detect plaque buildup that may increase stroke risk.
This test evaluates blood flow in the arteries of the arms and legs. The Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) compares blood pressure in the ankle and arm to help diagnose peripheral arterial disease (PAD).
Venous ultrasound assesses blood flow in the veins, commonly used to detect blood clots (DVT), venous insufficiency, or causes of leg swelling and pain.
Cardiovascular imaging may help diagnose or monitor:
Heart valve disease
Heart failure or weakened heart muscle
Coronary artery disease indicators
Carotid artery disease
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD)
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
Chronic venous insufficiency
Unexplained leg pain or swelling
Stroke risk factors
Most imaging tests are painless and non-invasive. Depending on the study:
Gel is applied to the skin
A handheld ultrasound probe is moved over the area being examined
You may be asked to change positions or hold your breath briefly
Appointments typically last 30–60 minutes, and you can return to normal activities immediately afterward.
Preparation depends on the type of imaging performed. In general:
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
Avoid lotions or oils on the skin being examined
Follow any specific instructions provided by our office
Our team will give you detailed preparation guidance when your appointment is scheduled.
